Back on track

Having being offline much longer than usual for more than two weeks, without my beloved and outdated Ipad1, made me realize I did not miss that much.
A rather personal understanding of stuff happened lately:

- Lakers´negative streak in the league so far
- Berlusconi´s embolic attack, III
- 3000 "best ofs" of every possible thing, item or person you can imagine
- Christmas´ boredom for some, war on Christmas for other.
- Snow
- Pollini in Berlin
- Augustiner nostalgia

Musical Flashbacks

Cocorosie are now on in the 24/7 NPR radio I am listening to, with that old album where they played actual instruments, guitars, glockespielen, screw stuff and so on and I think that it was as a matter of fact a good one.
I cant help but thinking that in 2006 Berliner life seemed much easier...

Let´s relocate Vijay Iver´s gig from the Passionkirche to somewhere else 2.

I got a reply from the management the very next day.

-----------------

Dear Marco,
I'm Vijay's manager. Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We will certainly look into it. I don't know if it will be possible to change this plan, but we'll absolutely investigate the possibilities.
All the best,
Steve

Let´s relocate Vijay Iver´s gig from the Passionkirche to somewhere else 1

Dear Vijay,
dear Management of Vijay,
I was delighted to bliss by assisting to your second set on April 28th this year and I am so looking forward to seeing you again live. I am a fan of yours since 2010 and I love your work and your way of presenting it around the globe.

I understand that you plan a concert in Berlin, my city, next February. My immense excitement left place to discourage when I realized the gig is organized in the Passionkirche, a church in Kreuzberg, West Berlin.
Though charming the idea of having a concert in a Berliner church might be, let me underline that the sound in there is bad-to-crap, on the average. If maybe bearable for a choir or organ music, I am not sure that the venue would in any way be right your music.
I would really appreciate if you, by means of your management or whoever is in charge, could consider a more adequate location, as Berlin is full of venues which would better suit your amazing talent and your excited fans, as I consider myself.

With regards

Julia Stone in Postbahnhof

A friend invited me to Julia Stone´s gig in Berlin last Thursday.
Another friend was supposed to come and when asking me what I thought of the concert, she received my email with the following reply, which may sound a bit harsh, though I did like the concert, a bit.

--------
"Sparks of fine pop music condensed in a landscape of cheesy songs, with the structure of music lesson-week 2, paired with the lyrics a 12 years old with evident psychological and intellectual imbalances would write, if only she had had unfulfilling teenager sex, as apparently is the case for the poor Julia...
The lights were good.

I enjoyed it anyway, not least since our (friend) does like her a lot.
You would have liked a bit too, I guess. Too bad you did not come.

Let me only say that I sometimes believe English speaking artists are allowed to sing about the most irrelevant and superficial stuff of the world and it is fine because it does sound much better than in other language...
Lucky them
That is probably also why the real Tina Dico is such a hit in the English landscape of pop music at its best....(infinite points)...

Special offer

I cant get out of my mind the thought that yesterday I could have booked a round trip Berlin-Thessaloniki for December for 60 bucks all inclusive

The "Recently Added" Itunes Playlist of mine

Beth Orton complete discography
Flaming Lips complete discography (but Embryonic and that other one from 2006)
Matthew Dear from 2009
Dinosaur Jr latest cover album of his own songs
Two Door Cinema Club
Band of Horses´ Mirage Rock
Block Party´s Four

....too much of the same and few very exciting albums, I know.

Tonight it could have been either Tame Impala or Liars live and I picked the latter.

I would like to get wasted one of these days.

A personal and futile list of overrated stuff

  • Barcelona: just thanks to Mirò and the seaside there is no way you can become a world city, though yoga lovers, mozzarella exporters, shallow fashion parade monkeys, a couple of Scandinavians and horny Erasmus students love you.
  • XX (Band): the riffs of a 13 years old guitarist with an affinity for triplets (mus) became the "song" to worship: it is so sad and depressing that it is enough. You can listen to it on Spotify, though...
  • Lasagne: please stop eating crappy food, if not cooked by a close relative (Michelin chefs do not apply either).
  • Pepsi: oh come on.
  • Carmelo Anthony: you'll never get to become crucial
  • Manu Chao: your flavor for global politics cannot hide the fact your music is boring as hell
  • Iphone: yeah, get the membership to the club of those retarded owning a phone you cannot make phone calls with (note the repetition, please) and let the US GDP grow by 0.5%.
  • Beck (the singer): No comment
  • French design for cars: please make up your own mind by observing the shape of a Twingo or a Megane

My answer for the one email too much from Airbnb Berlin

Leave my neighbourhood alone, please and let us Berliners in peace. Discoveries, even more the best ones, require dedication, curiosity and luck. You take care of tourists, right? Let them do that with the thousands of platforms already existing and stop with this over parolous, superficial crap you sent way too often per email.

My thoughts on the spotification of music listening: a bad thing for us all

The idea looks simple and sounds catchy: get on board with us, share your tastes, activities, photos and so on (music) and you will be by default be considered cooler, reach a higher stand in front of your (digitally speaking) friends and (for the few ranking high on Klout) subscribers. The content of these possible great achievements is taken for granted by those offering you their platform (only if not respectful, will it be questioned and eventually erased), shared by those interested in it, ignored by the most, either since they don´t agree or don't care. The drive for getting some digital reward makes us focus on one cool something, on looking for a catchy phrase and/or motive, on sharing a overwhelmingly colorful pic so that the other express their acknowledgment of our digital worthiness. This spiral of expiring moments of "kloutness" (neul.) is bad for arts, for ideas, for exchange and, to me currently the dearest thing, to music. We people living in GErMAny were very happy to have finally access to Spotify early this year, after all our Scandinavian friends dragged (sic) about it for years. But, dear fellows, is Spotify or are its copycats and very similar contenders so cool? …. Really?! We focus on catchy gingles more than we had already done before, we are constantly asked to make a playlist out of songs we listen to (most of the time not halfway through the track anyway) and we are finally rather unspectacularly made into sharing this bunch of stuff socially. But where does the music stay in this equation? Where is the drive (again) of taking some "quality" time with ourselves and listen a damn song from 0´00´´to 4´55´´and maybe consider it as part of an artistic creation (that old fashioned thing called album), put into a chronological order as thought by it composers and its producers? There is no way Spotify & friends can possibly come out as the advocates of music and the artists behind it. But they want you to believe so. They want you to tell them as fast as possible which song would be the catchiest, so that somebody may use that information to sell even more of the same crap. They do not reward artists directly (they admit so) and could not care less how this happens. We need to move away from a business model where the medium of sharing content becomes the thing counting the most and where the content slowly disappears and becomes cool only if shared and not on its own merit. A great antidote are all those album streaming chances you can enjoy lately: serious portals made by awesome journalists, music lovers and great people who make an album available online in its whole for a while. They ask for your best asset actually, so you should watch out: your attention and passion for stuff, your curiosity and love for new artistic creations. More of NPR and Guardian and so on then, please, and let Spotify go to hell and survive thanks to those geeky and massified nerds, who would listen to MTV crap over their overpriced smartphones anyway.

Talk talk in silence

The "Laughing Stock" Album by Talk Talk is amazing and this morning, listening to it one more time, I remembered of 2008 and that beautiful late spring and (now looking backwards) lonely summer with a sense of missed sweeping declarations. My favourite track is indeed "Ascension Day".

There are few people in my life, I reckon. And around holidays they become even less (available), so that loneliness becomes so usual I like it and end up looking for it.

New song by Tame Impala

The walk of a refrigerator on a hand truck

Nowadays he was huge - from medications, he claimed, both postcancer and antidepressant - but a glance into his trash can nearly always revealed an empty gallon box of Dreyer´s Rocky Rod ice cream. His read hair had devolved into a stringy gray ponytail. An unsuccessful hip replacement had left him with the lurching, belly-hoisting walk of a refrigerator on a hand truck. Still, he was awake, dressed - even shaven. The blinds of his loft were up and a tinge of shower humidity hung in the air, pleasantly cut by the smell of brewing coffee. Other lives in Seance, Berlin

Yesterday night I found out about this:

No11 OTHER LIVES from BERLIN MUSIC BROADCAST on Vimeo.

It is a place I visited once for a concert of some Paris based deejay I have no idea of. The band is rather new to me, their music not so thrilling.

Breaking news

I believe that the word of the month, if the not of the year, will be "australische laubenvoegel".
If you do not know what it is, you should not worry at all, as it was the same for me, though holding a DAFS degree and, most important, a lot of booze.
Nevertheless check out on Leo what that might possibly mean.
I will dream about holidays in Sweden and cheap drinks, the least likely combination ever.

Being 30+ at the beginning of July

I think that if you are 30+ there is a big chance that last week you either were tagged in a photo at a wedding party, ceremony, rehearsal, dinner, marathon or so and/or got married yourself. If not, you definitely have 10 or more of your FB contacts having had it this way.
If you do not find yourself in the descriptions, it is probably because you do not use FB. Which happens to be the best of all possible things at this point, actually.

I would have loved to be in Cannes this year, though I followed the news less than those coming from Kuala Lumpur (nothing personal K.L.).
After two weeks spent in small and cozy Italian villages, I would have loved to be in the hottest spot for a couple of days. Still I have very opposing feelings for the French way of interaction. Which will probably never go away.
Back in Berlin since yesterday.

New stuff I have been listening to:
Liars´ new album
Japandroids´ new album
Beach House
Barenboim directing Staatskapelle for Bruckner´s Symphonies
Barenboim doing the same for Beethoven´s Symphonies
Damon Albarn´s new project
Sigur Ros´ new album
Johnny and Santo
Hilary Hahn and Hauschka´s Silfra

To sum up this post NPR Music rules and/or Spotify does not.

We need to blog more, says S.Lobo.
After three days of re:publica, a conference on internet and similar in a G8 country with a lively civil society and amazing cultural institutions, I believe we should also try to talk more to each other in person, at least when there is the opportunity.
Tweeting can be fun and useful...during a conference which implies the physical presence of their participants, the full-on tweeting seemed to me a bit sick...you can pick a session at your choice and see whether the laughter for a joke is delayed as the audience is stucked with a RT of some sort of RT or FF which will be forgotten as fast as the hype for Windows Vista...

Internet is seen as a sort of solution for everything by many: when is the shop open? Check online, dude! What is the weather like tomorrow? Check the website, dude. German girls buy a lot of their shoes online, which has some very visible consequences for the most (that looks horrible, darling) but make their budgets happy...
There is a lot of truth in the fact that internet helps us through our daily duties and social challenges...the more it gets to the core of our interests, the more we need to interface it with something offline...unless we are all digital nerds...which I hope it wont be the case, ever
I can use yelp all my life as long as I actually visit restaurants....I can overload Instagram with my shots as long as I keep my eyes open, I can care for a Mindestlohn as long as I see the dignity of people everyday while being around the city...if not so, well my blog entries become rather shallow while my thoughts get haunted by some #shitstorm of no importance.

On the other side many think that people willing to control the internet behave with an hidden, though awful, goal...
I think that most of the time the goal is much simpler (but not because of this less awful) than many think....it is called making money asap.

I have no solution but maybe we should all show the evil capitalists 3.0 that the online world and the offline reality are two sides of the same story, and that we need to add more offline links to our life on the internet, for our own sake and for letting internet remain driven by human needs and not by hashtags trends...

Liquid democracy sounds maybe cool...to me it does sound like biofuel...still CO2 pollution, but with a human face, dude...

A bad day

The story is simple: a Venetian guy my age gets a very bad disease and dies. That happens yesterday.
I knew him, we went to secondary school together: the thing I remember the most is a birthday party as we were 11. His mum as a sweet and wit woman, the party with a lot of stuff to eat.

So let us go back to yesterday: by chance - I thought - at once on FB a lot of traffic is taking place on his page: people saying bye, have a safe trip, I see you soon...

Today my mum tells me by phone (thanks Marconi) what actually happened....

My thoughts on this are the following:

First reaction: I found revolting that people post on the all of somebody who just died.

Second reaction: I try to believe that if they do so, it is because they are shocked...but then ask myself: whom do they do it for but themselves? The disgust comes up again.

Third thought: is there a way to tell FB that an account should not be active anymore?

Man, I am sad.......

Inspired by a Coca Cola Commercial

What are the odds of finding a single straight woman between 27 and 32, living in Berlin, without:

- eating disorders
- a distorted perception of reality
- ongoing family issues
- addiction to drugs
- disbelief in relationships
- a genuine hate for jazz music
- the need to get children straight away
- bad breath issues?

I still believe is more than 0.0000001%.
Still.

Fantastic

We should all have the right to tell Israel "you are sooooo wrong" without being marked as antisemitic.

sobald er mißachtet wird;

und bleiben will, zuzumuten.

Warum sage ich jetzt erst,
gealtert und mit letzter Tinte:
Die Atommacht Israel gefährdet
den ohnehin brüchigen Weltfrieden?
Weil gesagt werden muß,
was schon morgen zu spät sein könnte;
auch weil wir - als Deutsche belastet genug -
Zulieferer eines Verbrechens werden könnten,
das voraussehbar ist, weshalb unsere Mitschuld
durch keine der üblichen Ausreden
zu tilgen wäre.

Und zugegeben: ich schweige nicht mehr,
weil ich der Heuchelei des Westens
überdrüssig bin; zudem ist zu hoffen,
es mögen sich viele vom Schweigen befreien,
den Verursacher der erkennbaren Gefahr
zum Verzicht auf Gewalt auffordern und
gleichfalls darauf bestehen,

vom Wahn okkupierten Region
dicht bei dicht verfeindet leben
und letztlich auch uns zu helfen.

E. B. thought a car would have suit me back those days...

Ill have the first drive of my life by myself in half an hour...and I think now while listening to Interpol, about this very beautiful woman, who once told me that she totally saw me driving a car..it was a long time ago, so long ago that she got married, have (at least) one child....
but I finally got it myself and am going for a drive

maybe with the Soundtrack of "Drive", to make it completely sentimental...

Dear John

...yesterday I was in this one bar in Berlin where I deejay from time to time ( also a lot of records of yours) and was listening to some tracks, sipping Brandeburger beer...after the "Rebirth of the Cool" by your old chap Miles, your "Ballads" with your quartet made its come back in my ears...what a surprise! What an epiphany of warm sounds and smooth atmosphere...

Oh man, you cannot believe how happy and uniquely moved your music still makes me, even more when your tracks come unexpected...
I regret so much that I never had the chance to see you live, neither the chance to say that you were still playing by the time I am born...

It is always nice when you get mentioned on an article, dude

Last Sunday night I talked with my friend Stephanie, the mother of the most wonderful baby I have so far cuddled, about some cliches about Italians. The discussion, started from der Spiegel after the Costa Concordia´s tragedy and continued by the crazily insulting strikeback of il Giornale on the day supposedly dedicated for remembering the Holocaust, had left some traces on me too: as a regular and long established Berliner citizen I realized to be more acutely sensitive to this kind of very shallow discussions than before.

Il Post started a discussion trhough Twitter and one comment of mine ended up in their article. Have to thank Stephanie once more!
